Swedish title: Ett ljus i mörkret

The novel is about Lucia, the girl celebrated as Saint Lucia in Sweden. Lucia was born in Sicily 286 A.D. and her dramatic life is a tribute to the power of light and love. At an early age, she faces the misery amongst the poor in Syracuse and thus rejects wealth and marriage to help the poor, but her kindness results in tragedy. Christians are persecuted, and when Lucia refuses to marry the wealthy Marcus, he becomes furious. He betrays her and reports her to the Roman imperial legate. If he can not have her - no one will.
A Light in the Dark deals with the choices we make, kindness and evil, love and hatred. It is love that leads us through life; it is love that is worth fighting and dying for. Without love, we are nothing.
